HAVE you noticed the amount of advertising on street lamps and safety railings around St Helens? Well my concern is that of car boot sale posters because when I organised a car boot for the school which my children attend I did this and was told if I didn't take them down I would be prosecuted.

So the same day I took them down, as I didn't want to raise money for the school and then give it all away again because I broke the law.

Since then other parents and myself have organised car boots and done lots of advertising without breaking the law. This week I notice some posters for a boot sale on many street laps and railings.

This made me wonder why this school can do it and not be prosecuted but our school can't as they have done it many times before.

When I phoned the council on Monday, September 17 I was told I was right and yes they were breaking the law and this would be looked into and the posters would be taken down. On Friday, September 21 the posters were still up all over so I rang the council back and was told that there was no difference between the two schools and the problem was being dealt with and you can't prosecute the school it is the person who is caught putting them up.

So by the time the council take the posters down this school will have done what they set out to do. I think when you go to the council to buy a licence for a boot sale they should give you a list of do's and don'ts.

This should then make sure all the schools get told the same thing and hopefully all get treated the same wherever your school is in St Helens.
