LIBERAL Democrat councillors Paul Browne and Kevin Connor are way off the mark in stating that Sudell Ward in Darwen doesn't seem to get a penny when money is allocated (LET, October 12).

Of course, more investment is needed in Sudell and throughout the borough as a whole. But let's look at some of the recent investments by the council and government within Sudell Ward; much of which is a result of campaigning by Sudell Labour councillors

£2.6 million for Surestart Project, including a brand new building at Lord Street.

£500,000 investment in Sudell's nursery, primary and secondary schools.

Housing improvements initiated by Twin Valley Homes.

Traffic calming schemes.

Grants for commercial properties.

New play areas.

Free security measures for hundreds of homes.

Sudell Ward is therefore clearly not ignored when funding is allocated.

Many wards in the borough, including one I represent, would welcome these levels of investment. Indeed, the Liberal Democrat councillors compound their statement by campaigning for the policy of area committees, "which would spread the money for wards more evenly."

Perhaps Councillors Browne and Connor could indicate which areas of the borough, and Darwen in particular, would be the losers?
