Blackburn Rovers star David Dunn has spoken about his most important result of the weekend -- achieved 24 hours after he scored a couple of crackers at Highbury!

The midfielder took time out from his two-goal celebrations to support young John Hindle's dream for a new wheelchair -- and presented the lad with his lucky pair of boots.

The midfield ace was approached by a friend of the Hindle family to help out at a charity auction yesterday in a bid to raise the £5,500 needed to buy nine-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer John an electric wheelchair.

And the player, from Great Harwood, donated a signed pair of boots for the auction, as well as giving John a pair of his lucky boots, complete with the name "Dunny" embroidered on the front, which he wore to score 18 goals last season.

David, who was accompanied to the event at the Wellington Inn, Barnes Square, by Rovers captain Gary Flitcroft, said: "John's a smashing young lad and I was only too glad to help out.

"I was asked by a mutual friend to support the auction and knew getting a new chair will mean so much to John.

"I visited him at home and we got on really well and have since seen him at home matches."

And John, a pupil at St Andrews School, Oswaldtwistle said: "I was really excited to meet David and Gary. I had met David before when he came to my house and he is really nice." The young Rovers season ticket holder, from Victoria Street, Clayton-le-Moors, has a basic model of chair, supplied by the Preston Disabled Centre.

But his family want to buy him a new one with a hydraulic seat which will give him greater flexibility and independence.

The new chair will cost £5,5000 and fundraising events organised by his parents Janet and Trevor have already brought in £3,500.

Trevor said: "John has got so much enjoyment out of the fund-raising, but it is worth it just to see the look on his face when he's with his favourite players. It's a real tonic.

"We can't thank David enough for what he's done for John."

The auction, which has brought in over £600 for John's fund was made up of 39 lots, including David's signed boots, a mountain bike donated by Mitchells Brewery, a video recorder, power tools and patio furniture.

Mum Janet added: "I wrote off to every football club and was delighted to get signed shirts, footballs, programmes and free gifts from a number of teams, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Southampton and Manchester City.

"We can't thank everyone enough for all the support they have given us in raising the money for John."
