STAND are an incredible 12 points clear at the top of NWCL Division Two after a 3-2 win away at second-placed Formby.

Nick Davis's side were 2-0 down with 30 minutes remaining but fought back to take three vital promotion points.

Davis gave debuts to new signings from UniBond side Trafford, centre half Billy McCartney and forward Lee Wilkinson.

The home side struck first through Paul Guy on eight minutes while Stand were still finding their feet.

But the visitors soon got into their stride and McCartney and Wilkinson had chances before Stuart Telfer had the perfect opportunity to equalise but headed wide.

Stand were on top going into the break but were hit by a second goal, from Formby's Phil Toale, soon after.

But they hit back almost immediately through a Chris Denham penalty and then Denham put them level with a header at the back post with 20 minutes to go.

Debutant Wilkinson headed home the winner with 10 minutes remaining and Stand could have gone further ahead with a penalty after the Formby keeper, who was sent off, felled Chris Denham but Denham missed the spot kick.
