FOR real socialists, it is ironic to see Labour councillors, including Springhill Ward Councillor Cliff Westell (Letters, October 15), criticising American foreign policy, when they know that Labour governments consistently support it, politically and materially.

Since 1945, American globo-politics has included the bombing of 10 countries, interfering in the domestic affairs of 70 more, bringing down some 30 governments, installing "vile dictators" and engaging in large scale racketeering and drug trafficking (courtesy of the CIA), etc -- causing the deaths and displacement of millions of people.

All this for the benefit of America's profit-seeking corporate elite and with Labour's blessing. No wonder they call it the special relationship.
