A NEW BBC1 television drama has taken its inspiration from a Radcliffe hairdressing salon.

Cutting It, which can be seen next year, stars Amanda Holden and Holby City star Angela Griffin.

It has been written by Debbie Horsfield, who is also responsible for the acclaimed dramas Making Out and Born To Run.

Speaking of her latest foray into television, she said: "My twin sisters used to have their own hairdressing business in Radcliffe. Hairdressing is something I wrote about 15 years ago in a stage play.

"I always thought I would go back to the idea of writing about hairdressers because as a workplace it is such a great meeting place."

She added: "It's not about the dead posh salons in King Street. It's about the rivalry between two hairdressing salons."

* Bury's Lisa Riley will also be starring in a new hairdressing situation comedy, which will be broadcast on BBC2 in February.

Called Having It Off, it has been written by fellow Bury resident Anthony Cotton, who starred in Queer As Folk.

In the comedy Lisa plays Frankie Brooks, a one-legged line dancer.
