THE arguments over delays concerning the official opening and full use of Blackburn's refurbished railway station interior have overshadowed an absurd spectacle high up on the ages-old exterior overlooking the Boulevard -- namely, the tired-looking station clock.

It is clearly not intended to be a guide to train departures, but instead of being left alone until a reliable replacement is installed, the time changes perhaps once a month, giving completely useless information.

It is no doubt all good clean fun, but two questions cross my mind:

a) As it is not working properly, why can't it be left at the same time all the time?

b) What sort of professional is involved in operating the hand-changing mechanism to fix it at times seemingly picked at random?
