EWOOD chief executive John Williams today spoke of his relief at the threat of a players' strike being averted.

"I'm absolutely delighted that common sense has prevailed.

"There would have been no winners and now we can get on with the business of playing football matches again."

Williams also played down reports suggesting the Premier League are ready to create a new two-tier set-up which would incorporate Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic, as well as a host of leading First Division sides.

"There haven't been any discussions at the Premier League between the clubs about this."
