PLANS for a new play area in Victoria Park, Haslingden, have been prepared and fund-raising for the scheme is about to start.

The Friends of Victoria Park have been working closely with Groundwork Rossendale to develop ideas for improvements to the park.

Now after months of hard work details of the scheme have been decided.

The new play area will consist of two distinct sections, a toddlers'/children's play area and a teenage wheeled sports and hard court area.

An adventure trail is also being planned to link the play area to the existing nature area created earlier this year.

A public meeting is to be held on Tuesday, December 4 to discuss the plans and fund-raising process.

The meeting will be held at Haslingden Community Link and start at 7pm.

Shona Davis of the Friends of Victoria Park said: "Everyone is welcome so come along and if you have any comments to make about the final plans or if you wish to get involved in the next stage."

Plans for the redevelopment of the park will be put on public display at Haslingden Community Link, the Mary Hindle Resource Centre, Haslingden High School, Haslingden County Primary School and in the park.

The scheme is intended to meet the needs of all age groups from toddlers to teenagers.

Shona said: "For the important job of fund-raising the project has been divided into it's two sections with an emphasis being placed on the creation of the teenage area.

"By building a skate park and new football/basketball court, a much needed resource will be established for the teenagers of Haslingden.

"Once this has been developed the second phase of rebuilding seeing the implementation of the toddler/young children's zone including climbing frame, springies, space net and the adventure trail can begin."
