PROPERTY and a quantity of what is believed to be heroin were seized by police on a raid on a house in the Duke Bar area of Burnley.

It was the second raid on the same address as part of the Burnley Residents Against Drugs campaign.

Officers entered the house through a window on Wednesday and arrested a man and a woman, who was also wanted by police for questioning about allegedly failing to appear in court on shoplifting charges.

Insp John Clucas said: "We are determined to crack down on the use and supply of drugs. Since BRAD was launched just over a year ago we have carried out dozens of raids and made a good number of arrests. Our message to local criminals is clear. The buying, selling and use of drugs from people's homes in residential areas and the crime that it attracts will not be tolerated.

"Judging by this latest case and the fact that the occupiers had barricaded themselves in, that message is now starting to get across."

Insp Clucas appealed to local residents to help them continue the drugs crime crackdown. He added: "Where we have good quality information we will take action. We will find out who the suppliers are and bring them before the courts."

Anyone with information is asked to contact local police on 01282 425001 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Insp Clucas said further warrants were likely to be executed in Burnley in the coming weeks under the BRAD initiative.
