FALLEN Italian giants Napoli could face competition from a number of rival clubs in their bid to land Ewood exile Ciccio Grabbi.

Rovers Chief Executive John Williams today revealed several clubs are interested in signing the 26-year-old before the Italian transfer window closes at the end of the month.

As yet, Rovers have not received an offer deemed acceptable for a player they paid £6.75 million to Ternana for in the summer.

But following the arrival of Andy Cole, manager Graeme Souness is clearly looking to offload the striker after he has struggled to settle in England.

And Rovers are still hopeful a deal can be struck at some point during the next fortnight.

"More than one club has shown an interest in Ciccio so something may move on this week," said Williams.

"But with the Italian transfer window due to close at the end of the month, speculation is absolutely rife over there at the minute."

Meanwhile, Rovers today denied rumours emanating from the North East linking them with a move for Newcastle United full back Andy Griffin.
