CONSTRUCTION students are using their skills to help a charity in need.

Brick work apprentices from Accrington and Rossendale College have begun building five new stables for the Only Foals & Horses charity in Oswaldtwistle.

The 15 students, along with their three tutors, started work on the stables on Monday and Olive Lomas, from the charity, is delighted with the work done so far. She said: "They did marvellously well yesterday. They worked very hard. It's a wonderful thing that will make our problems a lot easier."

She hopes that within a week they will be able to house some of the ponies.

The charity sent out a desperate SOS over the holidays for builders who could spare a few hours.

They then approached the college, who have done project work for the community in the past.

It is expected to take between 3 and 4 weeks.

The Only Foals & Horses charity provides sanctuary to horses, ponies, goats and rabbits. The addition will help house the 16 ponies currently living outside.
