LEE CHAMBERS could be on his way back to Padiham just months after signing for UniBond first division side Kendal.

Ironically, Kendal were fined £100 for illegally approaching the 27-year-old, but now he is on the verge of a return.

"His partner is pregnant and he was finding the travelling a bit too much," said Storks boss Graham Howarth.

"Kendal asked him to wait a few weeks so they could find a replacement and they have done that now.

"He played 10 minutes for us at the end of our win against Chadderton last week but now has an ankle injury so will be out for a few weeks."

Padiham have been banging in the goals recently after struggling just after Chambers - who scored 33 goals last season - left the club earlier in the season.

They have scored 17 in the last five games and Chambers may find it hard to displace the front two Anthony McCluskey and Ian Pilkington. McCluskey and Pilky are playing really well.

Pilky has scored 15 this season now so it is not going to be easy but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

"The experience of playing for Kendal in the UniBond League will have done Lee no harm at all and of course he will add a lot to the squad but McCluskey and Pilky are playing really well," said Howarth.

On his way out of the club could be Andy Lawson, who has been the subject of an approach by Colne.

Padiham travel to Squires Gate tomorrow. "It will be a tough game but the 5-2 win last week lifted us four places and gave us a massive confidence boost."

Howarth said he wasn't on the look-out for any new players as his young reserve side are on form at the moment with a couple of players knocking on the first-team door.

"Our reserves beat Clitheroe reserves 5-0 the other week and then they beat Nelson reserves 5-0 as well and we have some good young prospects at the club.

"Martin Thompson and Daniel Sharples are playing very well for the reserves and will definitely make the first team in the future. If I want new players that is where I will be looking and it is thanks to our coach Mick Cowan that the reserve side is so good."

PADIHAM are looking for people to join their management committee.

Club secretary Alan Smith said he wanted to take the club to a new level but needed more help behind the scemes.

"We need to go to the next level and if we try to do that as we are at the moment we will fail," he said.

"We have come from the West Lancs League and established ourselves in the lowest level of semi-professional football but we plan to go higher.

"Anybody who thinks they can offer us help should get in touch with me and I will take them up to the ground and we can see how they can help."

Anybody who can help out is asked to ring Smith on 01282 771963 or write to Alan Smith, 242 Burnley Road, Padiham.
