Dover 0 Leigh RMI 0 by Martyn Hindley

DOUR, drab, bereft of life. This was a football match that sent all reporters hurtling towards the thesaurus in search of explanation.

The end of the season seems to have come three weeks early for Leigh RMI as their draw with Dover was not enough to send pulses racing at the Crabble.

In all fairness, a scoreless draw had been well overdue for the Railwaymen who could not recall such a scenario in the league since Hyde United came to Hilton Park in January 2000.

However, Steve Waywell's mid-table side could not even register a shot on target as this encounter lost its spark at an early stage.

Clive Walker's cellar-dwellers are fighting for their life at the foot of the Conference but despite all of their battling, they could not grind out any clear cut chances in the first half against a resolute visiting defence.

Michael Twiss had Leigh's only real chance of the game which he wasted from close range in the first half, but the draw extends RMI's unbeaten run to five matches. In their recent renaissance that has seen them pull away from danger, they have lost just two from 14 in the league; a record that is sure to be put to the test when championship contenders Boston United come to town on Saturday.
