THE Clarets were waiting to see if Paul Gascoigne would show for training at Gawthorpe today.

The former England star was reported to have left Turf Moor on Saturday saying: "All the best with promotion lads, I won't see you again".

Gascoigne was a non-playing substitute for the Clarets 2-0 win over Gillingham at Turf Moor and was believed to be disappointed that his services were not required.

However, the club have not officially reacted to the rumours of Gazza's departure.

And that is because, as chairman Barry Kilby explained: "It is news to me and we have not heard anything officially."

It is just 22 days since the midfielder arrived at Turf Moor to a thunderous reception as he was paraded before the fans before the home derby against Preston North End.

Gazzamania gripped Burnley but the player is now believed to be unhappy at the slide his Turf Moor career has taken.

After a good start in the 1-1 home draw with Bradford City, there was a less convincing performance in the 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United, and though he recouped some ground in the 3-2 home defeat by Wolves he found himself on the bench at Portsmouth.

To be left on the bench again on Saturday appears to have been the last straw for Gascoigne.
