A WOULD-be robber met his match when he ran towards a security guard wearing a helmet who then head butted him.

The robber, who is described as Asian, slim, and wearing a black jacket and dark trousers and a balaclava or woollen hat with eye holes cut out was in an alleyway between Manchester Road and Dale Street car park in Haslingden.

When the Securicor vehicle pulled up outside the Abbey National Bank, in Manchester Road at 8.30pm on Friday, the guard, in his 60s, got out of the vehicle carrying a piece of paper.

The masked man ran towards him but stopped when he realised the guard was carrying only a piece of paper, but before he ran off the guard head butted him.

The robber ran off towards the car park behind the bank. He had an accomplice who was also in the alleyway and he is described as slim and wearing dark clothing and with a similar mask.

Witnesses should contact Rossendale CID on 01706 237442.
