Bradley Franks gave Mike Kelly's men a dream start with a fourth minute goal - his third of the season.
David Yorke-Robinson made the Rams rest a little easier with a goal nine minutes after the interval as he fired home his 18th goal of the campaign.
But Atherton put Ramsbottom under pressure and made on effort count in 66 minutes.
