SCOTT Gizon helped write Miners FC in to Hospital Cup record books with a four-goal blitz to sink Prairie United.

The former Nelson player scored Miners first four goals as Gary Evans team won the cup for the fifth time in seven years to equal Burnley FC's record number of wins.

After a bright start from both sides, the midfield man opened the scoring when he rose to powerfully head home Darren Whittaker's free kick on the half hour mark.

Prairie drew level five minutes later thanks to a surging counter attack by Dave Littler who raced clear from his own area to play in Ricky Sutcliffe to slide the ball past James Dacey.

But there was no holding Gizon back and, crucially, he grabbed his second on the stroke of half time when he side-footed Carl Howarth's drilled cross in to the roof of the net.

Prairie had chances to level soon after the break but striker Craig Robinson stabbed Sutcliffe's cross a foot wide of the left upright.

Gizon should have grabbed his hat-trick after Leon Barnett and Kiko Rodriguez carved open the Prairie defence but he poked his shot wide. But goal number three was not long in coming when quick inter changes between Rodriguez and Darren Forrest released Gizon to fire past Dave Forster.

The one man show continued on the hour when substitute Dean Stowe crossed from the right for Gizon to roll home from close range.

A minute later and this time Gizon turned provider when a powerful run and clever turn created space to cross for Howarth to roll back in to the path of Rodriguez who curled the ball home from the edge of the area.

Prairie kept on pushing forward and attacking right back Gareth Berry got to the by line and crossed for Robinson who delayed his shot which was smothered by Dacey from close range.

But Robinson did get on the scoresheet when captain Scott Robinson played him in just inside the area and this time he made no mistake with a low shot.

A comeback was never on the cards for Prairie and just to make sure, Miners re-established their four goal cushion when Forrest found Barnett wide on the right. The winger pulled the back to Howarth who chipped the keeper from the edge of the area.

Miners had chances to go further ahead but Stowe and substitute Natt Barrass were both denied by Forster.

But veteran substitute Sean Bryan did get on the scoresheet when he slotted home from the penalty spot in the last minute.
