MORE than 130 people are facing fines for not displaying a valid road tax disc after a crackdown on tax dodgers in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.
The crackdown was launched last month by Pennine Police in conjunction with the DVLA and Vehicle Registration Organisation.
The initiative was launched following a public car crushing display which aimed to raise awareness of the fact that people who avoid tax could ultimately see their vehicle reduced to rubbish.
Inspector John Clucas from Burnley Police said: "Car owners who fail to pay their tax at best, risk a fine, and at worst, risk seeing their vehicle clamped, towed away or ultimately, crushed.
"With this in mind I would urge members of the public to check that their tax discs are valid. Over the coming weeks and months our Traffic Wardens, and extra staff drafted in from the DVLA, will be on the lookout for tax dodgers and anyone caught without a valid disc will face action."
The DVLA and traffic wardens will also be acting on information received from the public about untaxed vehicles.
John added: "We receive a great many calls from law abiding members of the public who call to report tax dodgers and these are all acted upon.
"There really is no escape for road tax dodgers in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale."
