A VALUABLE pup has been stolen from a farm -- leaving her rare breed parents distressed.

Saranna, a four-month-old Dogue-de-Bordeaux, made famous in the hit film Turner and Hooch, was taken from Stone House Farm in Tyldesley.

Concerned owners Richard and Jane Haworth say Saranna's parents, Elsa and Storm, are pining for the safe return of their offspring.

Mr Haworth, aged 54, said: "It has really upset both them and me. She is very playful but shy with strangers and not used to other people. We cannot think why she has been stolen."

Saranna, one of four puppies born on the farm, could be worth £1,000. The breed have been known to fetch prices reaching £2,000. But Saranna was born with bent front legs and a bladder infection.

Thieves snatched her from a pen outside the property after breaking off a padlock and scaling a fence.

Mr Haworth's sister, Jane -- who lives on the farm -- added: "Elsa is very depressed. She is obviously missing Saranna. I do not know why someone would take her. If anyone sees her please contact us or the police."

Saranna is a deep red colour.

The Dogue-de-Bordeaux is one of the oldest of French breeds and a descendent of the Mastiff.

Mr Haworth added: "There will be a reward for her safe return -- no questions asked.

"She was part of the family and we are all very concerned about her welfare."

Leigh Police have confirmed the puppy has been reported stolen and investigations continue.
