NEW Preston boss Craig Brown has a great wealth of experience.

BEGAN coaching career as an assistant at Motherwell for three years combining his role with a school teaching job.

Spent 10 years at Clyde as part-time boss.

It was 12 years later became assistant to Scotland boss Andy Roxburgh. Reached final of the world under-16 championships and the semiifinal of the Under-21 European Championships.

Assistant to Roxburgh in 1990 World Cup but beaten by Costa Rica and Brazil and go out in first round.

Assistant in 1992 European Championships in Sweden where team go out in the first round.

In 1993 Brown made caretaker boss. Although defeated 3-1 by Italy in a friendly is given job on a permanent basis by the SFA. Scotland fail to make 1994 World Cup.

Brown succeeds in securing qualification for Euro 96 in England. After memorable defeat to England due to "that Gaza goal" beat Switzerland failed to qualify for second round by just one goal.

Succeeded in qualifying for 1998 World Cup .

The SFA had been so impressed with Brown's record that a further contract extension had been offered to him two months before the competition began.

Defeated by Brazil, draw with Norway and defeated by Morocco to go out in first round again.

Lose to England in play-off match for entry to Euro 2000

Brown resigns to no great surprise but he leaves with his reputation intact.
