THE traditional Maytime mayor-making ceremonies in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Borough Councils have launched three new first citizens into their year of office.

Coun Ivan Taylor is now Mayor of Blackpool. The longest-serving Blackpool council member with 33 years' service, Coun Taylor says he wants his year of office to benefit the local residents.

"I'm delighted to be at the forefront of the resort. Blackpool is such and exciting and progressive town," he said.

When he was council leader from 1991-2000 Coun Taylor spearheaded the town's successful bid for unitary status.

Greenhalgh and Singleton ward councillor Hannah Cummings-Miller, who has been an independent representative on the council for 20 years, becomes Mayor of Fylde.

Trinity Hospice volunteer Coun Cummings-Miller will have daughter Maxine Chew as her mayoress.

A keen charity fund-raiser, Coun Cummings-Miller says she is honoured to serve her mayoral office during the Queen's Jubilee Year.

The new Mayor of Wyre, Coun Geoff Horrocks, is keen to raise the profile of young residents.

Coun Horrocks was instrumental in achieving the first 20mph zone in the borough which was set up outside a Fleetwood primary school.

A Labour councillor for 15 years, he is the present chair of governors at Carr head, Poulton and Flakefleet Schools and vice chairman of Blackpool and the Fylde College.
