FUNDRAISERS at Hospice Care for Burnley and Pendle are appealing for people to get out their mixing bowls and help bake cakes for the forthcoming Garden Party and Plant Sale.

The Colne and Nelson group of Hospice fundraisers will have their cake stall at the event, on Saturday, which usually comes second in popularity only to the plants.

Kaye Bartle, hospice fundraising maager, said: "We find that may people don't have time in their busy lives for baking cakes, however they still prefer the taste of home baking.

"That's why our cake stalls are so popular.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who enjoys baking to bake an extra cake or batch of buns or biscuits for our cake stall to enable us to raise much needed funds."

It will be the tenth year that plants have been sold to raise funds for the hospice after local man John Whitford began selling surplus plants from his home.

He and his wife, Brenda Ellis, now grow thousands of plants at their home in Appleby Drive, in Barrowford, for the event.

Anyone who is able to provide cakes or biscuits for the garden party should leave them at the Hospice reception, in Colne Road, on Friday or bring them along to the event, which will take place between 10am and 4pm.
