HUNDREDS of vintage vehicles will descend on Chipping this weekend for the village's fourth steam fair

And organisers are confident that the event at the showground, in Longridge Road, will more than make up for last year's cancellation due to the foot and mouth outbreak.

Funds raised from the event will go towards phase two of the village hall refurbishment programme.

One of the organisers, Mary Harrison, said:

"It is marvellous how the whole village pulls together to help with the event, be it in the a large or small way, and we couldn't cope without their support.

"There is something for everyone and a guaranteed fun day out for all the family."

Entries have doubled in some of the classes this year and, in addition, a working exhibits section has brought in some interesting models, including an early 1940's threshing machine and bailer which will be up and running throughout the weekend.

There will also be a beautiful Victorian fair ground, as well as a wide range of commercial vehicles, classic and vintage cars, motor bikes, peddle cycles and tractors.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institute will also be sending a lifeboat for people to see and, on a more unusual level, the University of Central Lancashire will be displaying a tractor run on recycled chip fat.

Other attractions include the J&J Dance Ranch plus their Line Dancers, the Ranch House Shoot Out Team, Bernese Carting Dogs, birds of prey and the West Kite Club.

And for the children there will be a ride on the Burnley and Pendle steam train and donkey rides.

The Accrington Accordion Band will be situated in the large marquee on Saturday, along with Mary Baker's Irish dancers on both days and the Country Kids of Garstang fashion show on Sunday.

The showground will be open from 10am to 5pm both days. Admission is £3 for adults, £2 for OAP's and children, with under 12's free.
