BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness has made his third 'signing' of the summer after Henning Berg finally agreed to put pen to paper on a new one-year contract extension over the weekend.

Norwegian international Berg had been mulling over his future for some time after his contract ran out at the end of last season.

But the former Manchester United defender has now decided to take out the option of a one-year extension -- much to the delight of everyone at Ewood.

"Henning has decided to take his option and he will be with us again next season which is good news for the club," said chief executive John Williams today.

"We got a fax from his agent over the weekend so he should be back for pre-season training with the rest of the squad next week."

Initially, Berg had asked for time to consider his position after uncertainty surrounded his first team place following the arrival of Andy Todd from Charlton.

However, the vastly-experienced centre-back has now decided to fight for his shirt as Rovers prepare to enter the UEFA Cup next term.

"I've enjoyed myself at Blackburn and I want to stay for another year," said Berg.

"I'm looking forward to the new season. Last season was good with us finishing 10th in the league and winning the Worthington Cup and we hope to build on that over the next 12 months."
