THE Tockholes Gala committee has hit out after a costly banner advertising the event was stolen.

Colin Bury, a spokesman for the gala, said the theft meant that less money was now available to the good causes. He also appealed for it to be returned.

The banner was being displayed on railings near the M65 roundabout at Darwen to promote this Saturday's event.

Last year's gala was cancelled due to foot and mouth and committee members aimed to make this year better than ever to make up for the disappointment.

Gas company Transco will sponsor the event and help meet the £2,500 costs to hire the variety of entertainment which will be on offer around the village from 1pm.
