BAR Java in Wellington Fold, Darwen, is staging a knockout drinking tournament to win a trip to Amsterdam this Friday.

Contestants will attempt to 'down' a yard of ale to progress through to the next stage. The competition will run for the next four weeks with two finalists eventually going head-to-head.

Bernard Coupe, marketing manager, said: "I expect the competition will predominantly draw male contestants to show their drinking prowess.

"However, if any ladies think that they can keep up with the guys, they are more than welcome to join in.

"Having said that, we have a special giveaway lined up for them, too, thanks to the proprietor of Body Perfect."
