CLITHEROE drew a blank for the first time this season after failing to beat the in-form Winsford keeper in a NWCL Division One encounter.

On a bouncy surface the opening 20 minutes were even with the visitors having the best chance with a header. Clitheroe's best opportunity of the half was just before half time when Andy Cowking had a long shot saved by the keeper.

The second half was played for the majority in the visitors half, but for all their neat approach play, the final ball into the box let Clitheroe down.

Martin Aspinall was put clear on the left by Simon Garner, but his shot was just off target. Then the game came to life in the final minutes when Jason Jones had a blistering volley from 15 yards turned over for a corner by the keeper, then in injury time skipper Neil Spencer fired a left foot shot towards the bottom corner only to see the keeper dive full length and tip it onto a post and away to safety.

The Blues still remain unbeaten after three wins and two draws.
