WHEN Fax Your MP (www.faxyourmp.com) was launched about a year ago, it set out to allow people to quickly and easily contact their local Member of Parliament.

Recently the team of volunteers behind the site wanted to try to find out which MPs respond well to faxes they get sent, and which ones don't.

The results make fascinating reading because at the bottom of the list is Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith.

Close by are former spin doctor Peter Mandelson, with the Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy also scoring low.

The Fax Your MP owners are keen to point out that the figures in their table are just a rough guide to each MP's performance, and that mistakes could easily have crept in.

Perhaps more deserving of criticism than those MPs whose names are at the bottom end of the table are the small minority - six to date - who refuse to accept faxes sent via the Fax Your MP service. The sooner MPs respond to e-mail as a matter, of course, the better.
