AN INTERNATIONAL charity based in Radcliffe has moved premises from Church Street . . . to Church Street.

Transglobal Humanitarian Aid, which collects and delivers clothes, toiletries and medical supplies to the needy of Eastern Europe, is now based at 50 Church Street, almost opposite its former shop.

Mr Ian Siddall, the charity's chief executive, said: "While the new shop is a little smaller than the old one, we are delighted with it because it offers our customers a much better environment to shop in."

Bury Council needs to demolish the old shop as part of its improvement programme for the area. It made the new shop available for the charity.

Mr Siddall, who last month delivered more than £250,000 of medical supplies to Germany for distribution to Belarus, Sarajevo and Hungary, said the location of the shop was a key reason for the charity in taking on the tenancy.

"With the shop being so close to our old one, our current customer base would not be inconvenienced."

This week he set off for Romania with a lorry load of the latest children's clothes, medicine and toiletries, which he will take to an orphanage.

Speaking before he went he said: "I shall also be visiting a plot of land in the mountains where we are hoping to build a summer camp for the children."
