MORECAMBE face football league opposition on Tuesday with an LDV Vans Trophy tie at Shrewsbury.

The tie is a reward for Morecambe's league form last season, and Jim Harvey's men will be hoping for a better result than the defeat at Lincoln, which marks their only previous appearance in the competition.

Despite struggling in the third division, Kevin Ratcliffe's side has one of the hottest goal-scoring properties in the lower divisions, with highly rated striker, Luke Rogers, reportedly targeted by premier league sides.

But, before the Gay Meadow clash, Farnborough Town are the visitors to Christie Park on Saturday in a game, which gives Morecambe the chance to climb into the top five in the conference.

One positive piece of news on the injury front is that central defender, Jim Bentley, is close to returning to the Shrimps' first team in the near future for his first game since joining from Telford in summer.

Saturday saw Morecambe come away with a deserved point from the always-daunting clash with the Daggers of Dagenham.

Morecambe had already tested Dagenham keeper, Tony Roberts, on a couple of occasions before a well-worked strike on 13 minutes gave them the lead.

A Dave McKearney free kick found Garry Thompson who teed the ball up for Adriano Rigoglioso to finish.

However, Dagenham regrouped and began to put pressure on the Shrimps, with Craig Mawson having to be on his guard to deny a Steve West header, while Gary Fletcher had a Dagenham goal ruled out for offside.

After the break, the pressure became more intense as Dagenham regained some of the form, which saw them run Boston close for last season's conference title.

West, who missed a sitter shortly after the break, managed to make amends for his earlier mistakes with a 75th minute strike which gave his side a share of the points that they just about deserved.

His header met a Paul Mayo cross which set up a pile of pressure for the Shrimps in the closing moments of the game, with Stewart Drummond's last ditch tackle denying the lively Junior McDougald.

Morecambe are now in sixth, two points behind fifth place Hereford.
