SO anyway, I was in this pub when this bloke started... No, it's not the beginning of some Butlin's comedian's routine but actually the reason for this article.

See, I was listening to these two students going on about their previous night's exploits which had resulted in the more talkative of the two going home with, er, a washing machine.

And, no, he wasn't referring to some dubious conquest.

A little bit more earwigging and it became apparent that to find out just what was going on, a trip to Preston would be required -- to Tokyo Jo's.

Yes, student night is back!

Rammed full early on every Wednesday night, student night at Tokyo Jo's is like no other night you will have ever seen, or will ever see, at said nightclub.

For one thing, the atmosphere is just so relaxed and the dress code not restricted to the latest in "designer gear."

You'll find 1,000-plus happy students drinking their way through a three-year degree and a sizeable group of pretend students, like me, who reckon they can drink till the early hours of the morning and still be in front of a computer screen without a problem at 8am. Just for the record, in the cold light of day, it soon became apparent I couldn't.

The emphasis is most definitely having a good time, which is where Glen Hunt, DJ on Liverpool-based Radio City, comes in.

His madcap brand of humour leads to the sort of party games which leave a smile on the face -- particularly if you are in the audience.

The prizes are quite unique, too. As well as the above-mentioned washing machine, expect things like shopping-trolleys full of food, a year's supply of washing-up powder, your height in lager, your weight in food . . . the list goes on.

As for the music, well, Let the Good Times Roll! A certain Mark Freejack stands behind the decks for this one every week and he has only one rule: Anything goes.

If it moves people to dance, it goes on. From House Of Pain to Reef, from Belinda Carlisle to Faithless, the spectrum of music played couldn't be wider.

Up in the top bar is Baz Todd, who presents the Sunday Selection on Rock FM. Initially, the music he bashes out ranges from classic dance and chart music.

But after midnight, he transforms the room into an R'n'B heaven. The room moves in time to the sounds of everything from Ja Rule to Liberty X.

It's quite a contrast to the jumping around seen on the other two floors!

But it's all good fun. Cheap drinks behind the bar all night make sure that a good time, to quote a dreadful WI phrase, is always had by all.

If only I wasn't working!
