IN the spring, we announced that the Wildlife Hospital North West, based in Horwich, would close in December unless we could get 500 people to pledge £1 a week to cover running costs.

Despite every effort, we still have fewer than 300 supporters of our 500 Club and, with time running out, the centre's existence hangs in the balance.

Each year we respond to more than 10,000 calls for help and we treat, nurse and rehabilitate all species of British wildlife including hedgehogs, owls, squirrels, garden birds, foxes and wild fowl. If we are forced to close what will become of these wildlife casualties?

The public continually say closure would be a tragedy, yet it seems they are leaving it to one another to support us.

Please do not ignore our cry for help. Time is running out. Contact us on 01204 690018 (8am to 9pm) for a membership form or write to me at: Wildlife Hospital NW, 15 Vale Avenue, Horwich, Bolton BL6 5RF.
