INTEREST is continuing to grow in the special dinner being held to mark the 40th anniversary of Burnley's FA Cup Final clash with Spurs.

The event, to be held on November 14, will be the first time players from the two greatest sides of that era have been brought together to relive the memories of that occasion.

The reunion has the added attraction of taking place the week after the two sides clash again, this time in the third round of the Worthington Cup.

Great names like Jimmy McIlroy, Jimmy Robson and Ray Pointer will be rubbing shoulders with Spurs stars Bob Smith, Cliff Jones and Maurice Norman and the fans who attend will have the chance to meet and speak with the men who made their teams legendary.

That Wembley Final saw the Clarets beaten 3-1 by mighty Tottenham Hotspur to leave them finishing agonisingly as runners-up in both League and Cup.

The only consolation was the fact that striker Jimmy Robson was the scorer of the 100th Cup Final goal at Wembley.

The reunion dinner for the players from the two clubs will take place at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel and there will be plenty of chances to get autographs of men whose place in their club's Hall of Fame is secure.

The cost of tickets is £35 and once the costs are covered, any money that is raised will be given to charity.

"This is not about making money, this is about everyone having a good time and renewing old acquaintances," explained Tom Roe, who is organising the dinner along with Veronica Simpson from the ex-Clarets Association.

Anyone interested in attending the evening or finding out more details can call Tom on 01253 729254 or Veronica on 01282 436869.
