A MAN clipped a town centre security guard around the back of the head because he mistakenly thought it was his uncle.

Blackburn magistrates heard the guard was "less than amused" and gave chase, detaining Michael John Slater until the police arrived.

Slater, 18, of Fowler Height Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was fined £50.

Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, said the uniformed guard was standing in Stonybutts when he felt a slap across the back of his head.

He turned to see Slater running away and gave chase.

Both of them fell to the floor and when police arrived Slater became abusive.

Kevin Preston, defending, said Slater had been drinking and made a genuine mistake.

"He sneaked up behind the security guard believing it was his uncle and gave him a slap," said Mr Preston.

"He realised to his horror that he had made a mistake but unfortunately the security guard was not impressed.

"He felt that the way he was restrained was a bit over the top and accepts that he became abusive."
