Tyldesley 44 Kirkby Lonsdale 20: TYLDESLEY RU moved up two places in the League Table thanks to an emphatic 44-20 victory over Cumbrian side Kirkby Lonsdale.

From the start Tyldesley looked the more capable side and a early ruck infringement brought a 25 metre penalty which Mark Dickinson landed with ease. From the restart the Tyldesley forwards drove up the middle of the park with second rower Craig

Pulman the main supplier of good yardage from where the back row combined to send Ian Worsfold in for a try converted by Dickinson.

The visitors hit back with a penalty and unconverted try but undaunted the Tyldesley pack again showed their dominance and a sweeping move was finished off by Andrew Simpson after taking a short pass off fellow back rower Shaun Pulman. Another Dickinson penalty saw the home side go in to the break 18-8 up.

The first major play of the second period saw Dickinson move the ball out tohis backs and centre Adam Fetherston capped a fine personal display by crashing over to right of the posts. A lapse in concentration allowed Kirkby to register another try but that was cancelled out almost immediately as prop James O'Connor crashed over from 10 metres out with Dickinson adding the conversion. Tyldesley sensed that Kirkby were beaten and from the restart the home side again moved up the field with purpose allowing Worsfold to grab his second try of the match and Dickinson another conversion for a 37-13 lead.

Showed his pace

With a few minutes remaining, winger Gary Corbett showed his pace by soaring over the line from 20 metres out and Dickinson landed a fine touchline conversion to earn himself the Man of the Match award. With a couple of minutes left Kirkby grabbed a farcical consolation try after a sliced clearance kicked under their own posts was received by the winger who raced upfield to score.

Tyldesley Knights made the long trip to Kirkby Lonsdale and recorded a fine 33-7 win. It was a classic tale of two halves as the home side went in at the break 7-0 up, but the second period saw Tyldesley in charge with tries from

Tom Cartwright (2), Peter Hayes, Taff Watkins and Sean Campbell. Hayes landed four conversions.

The Dragons came up against Burtonwood Firsts and took a early 3-0 lead following a successful penalty from Jamie Aldred. However Burtonwood responded with a try only for Aldred to give the home side a 6-5 lead at the break with another penalty. The second half saw just one score when Burtonwood turned the ball over and raced up the park to score under the posts.

Key performers on the day were Andrew Oakden who worked hard and put in one try saving tackle and old timer Paul Toole who was busy throughout.
