THE bad weather during the week caused the cancellation of both Heys Games last Saturday and the lack of action gives an ideal opportunity to review the season to date.

A new first team management duo of Adie Moran and Rob Evans took over in the summer and a good pre-season's training left them looking forward to the season with a degree of optimism.

Qualification from the group stages of the Gold Line Trophy was achieved, but the league games started in a stuttering fashion.

An opening day defeat at Elton Vale was followed by consecutive home wins. Then came two defeats in three games, but since then, they have gone on a run that has seen them lose just one game in ten, a sequence which has taken them to joint leadership of the Premier Division.

The only other setback was the defeat at Aspull in the LFA Shield, but this was soon forgotten as the team continued to play a brand of football, pleasing not only the management, but supporters who have been returning in increasing numbers.

Further progress was made in the Gold Line Trophy and the semi-final will be played in January.

Tomorrow, Heys are on duty in the Gilgryst Cup with a quarter-final game away to Wilmslow Albion (kick-off 1.30pm).

Travelling supporters should leave the M56 at junction five, turn right at traffic lights at end of Ringway Road. Ground is on left opposite Quarry Bank Mill.

The reserves, under the leadership of Liam Byrne and Mike Scott are currently in fifth place in Division Two. Wilmslow Albion are the runaway leaders of the League, but Heys are striving to attain second place which will be a testament to their ability. They are at home tomorrow against Atherton Town KO 2pm.

Heys' Youth sides, under the control of John Devlin and Nigel Hawkins, are finding life difficult in the ultra-competitive North West Youth Alliance, but continue their learning progress and will be an asset to the club's future.

Away from the playing of matches, there has been a significant up turn in commercial activity. The Parkside Hotel agreed to continue their sponsorship of the first team strip and Able Scaffolding kindly agreed to lend their name to the reserve team.

Lamb Weston Potato Products have provided a significant amount of clothing for use on training nights, but also for the use of both teams on match days.

All first team home games to the end of the season will now be sponsored and the club is grateful to these companies and individuals for their continuing support.

Finally, the club wish to extend its best wishes to supporters for the festive season and also to thank you for your support.
