BILL Taylor and Dennis Walsh served up a Christmas treat with an unbeatable performance in this annual event.

Taylor and Walsh were paired together when their names came out of the hat and they won all but one of their eight matches, drawing the other.

Only Janet Doyle and Alan Mills prevented the newly crowned champions from a clean sweep of victories.

However, it was the pairing of Anne Adamson and Alan Brocklebank that proved to be their closest rivals and defeat against Taylor and Walsh was their only one of the day.

The competition has been running ever since Mini Tennis was set up at Darwen Leisure Centre a decade ago.

Pairs were drawn out of a hat and everyone played each other on a round robin basis with every match just 10 minutes long.

And organiser Christine Bartrop made sure each pair played to the rules thanks to her trusty kitchen egg timer!

Doyle and Mills, who won five, drew one and lost two of the eight matches took third spot ahead of Eric Bolton and Joan Smith who won five but lost three times.

Jean Cook and Jean Holden took fifth place -- winning four, drawing one and losing three -- ahead of Vanessa Moore and Joan Maynard who won twice.

Mike Adamson and Marie Doyle and Doreen Taylor and Tony Seaford shared seventh place with two wins and six defeats.

The unfortunate winners of the 'wooden spoon' was Paul Schofield and Alwyn who lost all eight of their matches.
