A NEW theatre company in Darwen could be up and running as soon as January.

A derelict sub-station behind Darwen Library Theatre was converted into a new theatre recently and the Residents Performing Arts Company, whose members' identity at present remains a secret, will be in position soon after Christmas.

Council officers are awaiting a visit from United Utilities to get the building in working order.

As well as holding their own productions in the new theatre, the company will go out into the community to spread their knowledge.

Meanwhile, the Library Theatre's production of 'Scrooge' continues to be a success.

Steve Birch, theatre manager, said: "We've sold out on Christmas Eve and it's selling really really well.

"We are all looking forward to enjoying a successful Christmas season."
