Leigh RMI 2 Bury 1 by Martyn Hindley: IT may be the veterans who have stolen the limelight at Leigh RMI of late, but it was the young ones who led the way in a 2-1 win over Bury last night.
Defender Wayne Madden - just five days into his career as a Leigh player - powered home a header shortly before the half hour mark from a Ged Kielty corner with a thunderbolt free-kick from Andy Heald doubling the margin twelve minutes before the break.
The combined age of the RMI scorers was just 41, just four years more than ex-Manchester City star Ian Bishop, who made a quiet yet reasonably effective contribution to his Leigh debut in central midfield.
With an obscene number of substitutions the accepted norm in friendlies of this sort, a breakdown in rhythm was only to be expected, the hosts' party only spoiled midway through the second half when Nugent struck back for the Shakers after shrugging clear of his marker.
