WITH all the recent abductions, murders and rapes of young girls, how distressing it was for my wife and I to watch at 4.30pm on a dark, winter evening, two young girls of about seven or eight by themselves in the new McDonald's restaurant opened on the motorway near Darwen, obviously with money in their pockets, which any druggy would have been interested in.

They were also approached by a complete stranger asking for the time. They then walked out across the car park, down the dimly-lit road and across a field in the dark.

Where were the parents of these little girls and with all the news about abductions, does nobody warn these children?

My wife and I kept our eyes on them until they walked out of sight, but our thoughts were could they have next been on TV, in CCTV video footage showing their last walk down the road and into the field!

M HAWTREY (Mr), Cloister Drive, Darwen.
