A PET shop boss is calling on council chiefs to sort out the traffic chaos outside his store before someone is killed.

The manager of Preston Pet Centre, Blackpool Road, claims some customers have had near-misses when driving on the car park outside his shop from the busy junction.

Now he is calling for a box junction to be put on the danger zone. Manager Michael Jolly said: "Cars are getting damaged coming in and coming out. One day somebody is going to be seriously hurt."

According to Preston police's road policing unit there have been 54 collisions serious enough to have caused injuries this year on the full length of Blackpool Road. And records show two 'injury collisions' were outside the pet shop. PC Dave Taylor said: "It's a very busy area and a busy junction. There may well have been some outside his premises."

Mr Jolly said that as customers come and go, they have to sit waiting in their cars, slowly edging out until a space appears.

He said: "I have been here about two years but it's been going on for longer than that.

"It works out at maybe one or two accidents a week."

A spokesman from Preston council said: "Unfortunately we can't put a box junction there. They only apply for access to other roads not for property. Mr Jolly can apply for Keep Clear signs and we would ask the county council for their views on this matter."
