A MAN who was left fighting for his life after a doorstep attack has spoken his first words since the assault one week ago.

Lee Kenyon, 20, of Dyson Street, Blackburn, was interviewed by detectives yesterday as he recovers from serious head injuries.

Police are still trying to trace Carl Lawson, of the Fishmoor area of Blackburn, five days after naming him as the person they wanted to question about the attack.

And they are hoping to gain further information about the attack by questioning the victim again in the next few days.

Detectives believe Mr Kenyon was involved in a fight with a number of men and women outside a house in Flimby Close, Blackburn. He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary, but transferred to intensive care at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Early this week Mr Kenyon was returned to Blackburn Royal Infirmary to continue his recuperation.

Det Insp Neil Hunter said: "We have had a reasonable response as a result of the media appeals. Quite a few calls have come in to say they know Carl Lawson and that he has been around the Blackburn area. We have visited a couple of addresses as a result of information from members of the public and we have teams working on active lines of inquiry to trace him.

"We obtained a statement from Lee Kenyon and he appears to be on the mend."

Anyone with information about Carl Lawson should call Blackburn police on 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
