GREAT HARWOOD manager John Hughes praised his side despite seeing them knocked out of the Marsden Trophy 4-1 at Southport last night.
The score-line was misleading as the Robins turned in a sterling performance against the Nationwide Conference side and took a shock lead on nine minutes through John Eastham.
But Southport equalised just before the break and never looked back as they added three second-half goals.
BACUP came from a goal behind to record a good 4-2 NWCL Division Two win over Norton United at Accrington Stanley's Crown Ground.
Goals from Ian McLelland, David Gray, Steve Stott and Karl Stanley secured the points for Brent Peters' men.
McLelland's curling free kick levelled matters before Gray fired them into the lead.
Norton equalised but Stott restored the lead from the spot before Stanley wrapped the game up.
