A FORMER cancer sufferer marked her 90th birthday by raising £815 for Cancer Research at her special celebratory lunch.
Phyllis Prest, of Darwen, raised the money by asking her birthday guests to donate to the charity instead of buying gifts.
The birthday lunch was held at Astley Bank Hotel and attended by family and friends. And the idea of making a financial donation instead of bringing gifts for the 'birthday girl' was hailed a success by Phyllis.
She said: "I was diagnosed with skin cancer which appeared on my head three years ago. I was treated at Royal Preston Hospital and now I'm all clear.
"I'm very happy about all the money we raised for the charity. It's a very deserving organisation which and does so much to combat a terrible disease".
