A BURNLEY man seriously injured in a car crash was today still fighting for his life as his family faced an anxious wait at his hospital bedside.

Steven Morris, 48, of Printers Fold, Burnley, was cut from the wreckage of his Ford Escort on Friday morning.

Police said that his car had failed to negotiate a left-hand bend in Whalley Road, Read, and crossed to the other side of the carriageway. As the vehicle careered out of control it struck a Honda Civic, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Mr Morris was taken to the intensive care unit at Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance, where his condition was today described as critical.

The accident happened at about 11.45am on Friday near Read Hall.
