REGARDING your article (LET, December 17) about health trust chiefs confirming the site for Darwen's new health centre, this site is not suitable for people with mobility problems.

They said that most people were happy with the current health centre, but surveys and interviews found the vast majority wanted a new one built. I would like to know when they did the survey, as far as I know from friends and other people I've spoken to no one knew about it until we saw it in this newspaper.

David Brunskill, director of the Primary Care Trust's corporate development, said: The public in Darwen is behind us and it's fantastic that people have shown so much interest. I'm just sorry we've only had a few months in which to carry out all the consultations."

Which planet is he from? As far as I know, there are not very many people in Darwen who support this site. Why don't they call a public meeting about where the new health centre should be built so everyone can have their say in this matter once and for all?

Maybe NHS chiefs and the PCT are scared to call one as they may have made a mistake in rushing the consultations through without Darwen people having their say.

If the people of Darwen are behind the site, as Mr Brunskill says, why is there a petition against it? I call on the people of Darwen to sign the petition and call for a public meeting as well.
