LANCASTER'S Alan 'The Ice Man' Warriner made a promising start to the PDC World Darts Championship with a 4-2 first round victory over Rod Harrington.
Warriner, the fourth seed, now takes on fellow Lancastrian Les Fitton in the second round of the televised tournament at Purfleet's famous circus tavern.
He started the game against Harrington impressively, taking the first two sets 3-1 and 3-2 with his opponent seeing a number of his darts bounce out of the board.
A few words with the officials resulted in a change of board and a change of fortunes, with the third set going to Harrington 3-2, though Warriner took the next 3-0.
Harrington again came back to win the next set 3-1, but the pressure was mounting for the final set and, with the scores finely balanced at 2-2, Warriner kept his cool to check out from 74 in third and final game.
