DENTISTS will be getting their teeth into £10,000 to pioneer new working practices.

Bury Primary Care Trust (PCT) found out this week that its bid to become one of 26 national field sites on behalf of Bury, Heywood and Middleton and Rochdale Primary Care Trust was successful.

As a field site, the three areas will test new ways in which dentists can make innovative decisions on the right treatment for their patients as part of the department of health's Modernising Dentistry Programme.

Evan Boucher, chief executive for Bury PCT, said: "We are delighted that Bury has the potential to become one of the 26 field sites nationally, given the opportunity to develop new ways of working and benefit from extra resources. Bury is already well placed in the field of NHS dentistry given the impact of the Dental Access Centre and other initiatives. This is likely to strengthen NHS dentistry within Bury, which is good news."

The £10,000 allocation will help support work, involving local practitioners, between now and the end of March 2003.
