When you talk about the heady heights of bottom but one of the league and a first win in two years you soon realise the important of this fixture.

This was West End's and Akzo Juniors cup final -- and what a final it was!

Rock-bottom West End, who have experienced a win for more than two season, could only muster nine players against a side whose win and draw kept them just above their fellow basement battlers.

And it appeared that Akzo were going to pull away from the closest rivals after racing to a two goal lead.

Sean Dunn beat the offside trap and squared the ball to Jack Lomax to roll the ball home.

Akzo bossed the early exchanges and Craig Scott fired just wide before Nick Worswick and Sam Pickup went in where it hurts to snuff out another attack.

Michael Boardman then forced West End keeper Lee Cunningham in to two excellent saves.

While West End hit back with Cai Cox and James Spencer both going close, it was Akzo who scored the next goal to double their lead.

Alex Tonge skipper around the keeper and squared the ball to Scott who kept his cool to fire past the defender on the line.

But West End's reply was instant and within three minutes they were level.

First Pickup found Matthew Quigley who fired home from close range before Cook scored from the spot after Richard Treadwell was fouled in the box.

By now West End were in the ascendancy and hardly looked like a team two players short.

And they took lead early in the second half when Cook burst through to force a good save out of Michael Boardman but Spencer was on hand to fire home the loose ball.

Akzo pushed forward looking for an equaliser but came up against Jacob Fowler who epitomised West End's performance.

Time and again the defender came to the rescue and in the end West End clung on for a famous victory.
